Shades of Life

Every year there comes this time at the onset of summer which leaves its mark on the faces of every Indian. From the concrete jungle in the cities to the lanes and by-lanes in villages, every corner that the human eye can traverse is bathed in a different hue altogether. The festival of Holi, with all its new colours brings about a new spectrum wherein every individual dons a new identity for a day or two.
Young and old alike, everyone feels a sense of belonging in this wonderful festival. It starts with songs and ends in sweets. Whatever happens in-between is the celebration. Hands, palms, feet and faces lose their identity completely and nobody seems to bother. True to the sense of celebration, people willingly put on shade after shade, colour after colour. And there is no further scope for colours, people gorge on sweets and of course ‘bhaang’. Shouts of joy reverberate across; colours hang in the air like some ethereal mist. There is not a dull moment in this rather busy holiday.
In the City of Joy, Holi is celebrated over two days. Personally, I added a third day to my celebrations- in a different way, at a different place and …. .

  5. Holi ! Festival i personally like bcoz in a way it builds relationships :) Itz an occasion where we overcome personal barriers as well as societal barriers to celebrate it with friends, foes, people of different religions. All the Multicolored faces looks alike and makes us feel that we are One !!!

As far as Abijit's 3rd day conspiracy is concerned, we would want the details to be revealed by the man himself. May be in the next blog :P

  8. Holi, for me, interestingly, is not the onset of summer, or for that matter spring:) It reminds me of fond memories of fun and color.... I missed the "bhang" but what the heck, I miss so many things, so many times, that I dont miss, "missing"!
May be you could have illustrated your writing?
